Salinas Grandes Tour

Full Day

The tour starts early for the town of San Antonio de los Cobres, following the tracks of the Tren a las Nubes (“Train to the Clouds”) through the stunning Quebrada del Toro. The landscape changes with the rising altitude until reaching 4,000 meters above sea level. The trip continues to the ruins of Santa Rosa de Tatil. At San Antonio de los Cobres (3,776 meters above sea level) there is a stop for lunch. After an hour and a half on route 40, the tour stops at Salinas Grandes, a vast salt flat in the Jujuy province, where, on weekdays, several men work under the sun. After arriving to the maximum height (4,170 meters), the tour descends of the Cuesta del Lipán to the town of Purmamarca. There is time for a walking tour and a visit to the crafts market before returning to Salta.
