Fileteado, the Street Art of Buenos Aires
A closer look to Buenos Aires’ most characteristic art technique: the fileteado, a type of drawing, with stylized lines and flowered, climbing plants, typically used to adorn all kinds of objects, signs, and particularly the old city buses. With a visit to a renowned artist, this tour is an introduction to the history and the secrets of the filete, with some time for all participants to paint their own pieces and take them home as souvenirs. Closely related to tango, with a beautiful repertoire of flowers, birds and whimsical typography, the fileteado emerged as a colorful ornament for carriages and later for trucks and buses, and became Buenos Aires’ distinctive urban graphic art form.
