Buenos Aires City Tour with Quinquela Martín Museum
This complete tour of Buenos Aires has a very special stop in La Boca, one of the city’s most characteristic and romantic neighborhoods. It is an old district in the southern part of Argentina’s capital, precisely in the mouth (“boca”) of the Riachuelo, in an industrial port area of working class DNA. It was the harbor and shelter of many Italian immigrants between 1870 and 1930. La Boca is best known for Caminito, a much photographed pedestrian street surrounded by the typical “conventillos”. This kind of humble communal house is usually built from recycled wood and metal from the harbor, and painted in bright colors. This tour reveals the figure of Quinquela Martín, La Boca’s greatest artist who not only painted the neighborhood but also fought for it actively, struggling to preserve its true identity against new urban development through the 20th century.
